A good experience.  Jack is a great communicator, conscientious and takes a lot of pride in his work.  He was on time and on budget
with the job and continues to provide support afterwards as I chase a ghost or two.

2006 10 -- The Hitlist
The overall job was to replace and upgrade the failing batteries.  This necessitated an upgrade of the charging systems as well:

  • 12v balmar alternator w/ external 3-stage regulator; locate regulator near existing regulator below nav station foot board
  • Echo charger for 12v charging to work w/ both alternator and charger;  ensures 12v starting batt gets charged in parallel w/ 12v
    house bank
  • Link2000 to monitor 12v battery banks; head mounted near Mastervolt CSCP head; backlight control by 12v voltage gauge switch on
main electrical panel. (same way as 24v voltage gauge switch controls 24v mastervolt control panel backlight)
  • Install replacement 12v/35a mastervolt charger
  • Provide and install new Discover AGM batteries, completely installed, including battery mounting & wiring, securing, etc.
  • 4 x EV4DA (2 starboard, 2 port) for 24v service
  • 1 x EV8DA (starboard) for house 12v service
  • 1 x EV31A (starboard) for 12v starting
  • Replace SSB backstay cable (above decks); check deck fitting

The Outcome -- 2006 10
  • New 12v Balmar alternator w/ external 612 3-stage regulator installed.  Includes over-ride switch to use internal alternator regulator
    instead of the external regulator
  • New Echo Charger for 12v charging (works w/ both alternator and charger);  ensures 12v starting batt gets charged in parallel w/ 12v
    house bank
  • New Link 2000 monitor for 12v battery banks; head mounted near Mastervolt CSCP head in hallway; backlight control by 12v voltage
gauge switch on main electrical panel.
  • Install upgraded 12v battery charger (replaced Mastervolt 25a charger with a new Mastervolt 12v/35a charger).
  • Installed new Discover AGM batteries
  • 4 x EV4DA (2 starboard, 2 port) for 24v service
  • 1 x EV8DA (starboard) for house 12v service
  • 1 x EV31A (starboard) for 12v starting
  • Replace SSB backstay cable (above decks); checked deck fitting

2007 01 Update
System is entirely functional, however ever since the upgrade, the 24V alternator charing voltage and amps cycle up and down over 1 - 2
minutes.  Not sure what is causing this.  Echo charger drops 0.5V for charing of second battery (starter battery).  Continuing to work on
validation of all charging profiles.
